Yosemite National Park

In July 2002 I was visiting California on business trip and popped up to San Francisco to take a three day guided mini-van tour to Yosemite national park. The following are from our first full day in the park.

Our walking group Here's our group on the way up Mt something-or-other. We were are kinda mini United-Nations as we had a Brazilian, Belgians, English, Germans, Japanese, South Africans, Yugoslavian, a Yank and of course a particularly good looking kiwi lad.
On the way up we had to make way for a couple of pack horses. Our guide reckons they were replenishing supplies in park huts, but I reckon the old dude on the front horse was just being lazy. giving way to the pack horses
first stop at a lake First stop for the day was a wee lake about half way up the mountain. Time for a toilet break and a few photos. At this stage we had plenty of confidence in our fitness. We hadn't really started climbing yet though.
Here's a view looking back down from the lake mentioned above. This is some amazing contry, with view like this (sans water) pretty much wherever you look.. looking back down on the lake
higher view of the region Now we were getting loads higher finally. Here's a view looking back down the route we'd come up. You can just make out the track winding down the slope.
Just below the summit of the climb we came accross a sheltered rocky area that still had snow in it from the Winter. This was pretty freaky considering it was mid-summer. Of course we were at 11,000 feet at this point. snow in SUMMER
