Get Yer Flu Shots Here !!!! (link)

Noone has been shot, starved to death, or been blown up as a result of this incident so I'll excuse you for not picking it up in the media, but according to a number of newspaper websites in the US a loony nurse in Twin Cities Minneapolis was arrested on Friday for giving unauthorised flu-shots to students at a local high-school.

She'd been at the school earlier in the week with her employer giving out meningitus shots and returned later with what she claimed was influenza vaccines and began dispensing them for $20 a shot. About 38 students received them before someone challenged the nurse and she fled the scene, to be arrested later by Police. The vials are still being tested and the nurse claims they're legit and that she'd stolen them and was raising money for some charity, but I'm picking there are 38 very worried young yanks sweating it out at the moment waiting to hear what they've just taken onboard.

Quite scary really. Cetainly wont be doing much for the nerves of the American public as they consider the national shortage of Flu vaccines in a year when the World Health Organisation and other bodies are predicting we're facing an imminent pandemic spawned by a cross over from the Asian Bird Virus.

"We are talking at least 2 to 7 million, maybe more — 20 million or 50 million, or in the worst case 100 million people," Shigeru Omi, WHO’s regional director for Asia, said. A viral jump from fowl to human beings is thought imminent.

Asian cities like Beijing have begun contingency planning for an outbreak, considering food and vaccine stockpiles, identifying mass burial sites and cordoning off procedures to stop the spread of other diseases. The Yanks are worried enough about their own vaccine shortages that they're now earnestly shopping abroad for supplies of vaccines and apparently ....

Canadian flu shot maker ID Biomedical has just over 1 million doses to sell to the United States, while British drug manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline can provide 4 million doses from a German plant, Thompson said in October.

Might be time to cut back on the KFC intake.
