Member of Team Kawasaki UK competing in the British Superbike season as Transatlantic Finance Kawasaki in 2001 along with teammate that year Steve Plater. Rutter had a two 5ths in round 1 at Donnington, two 6ths at Silverstone, a 5th/6th in round 4 at Oulton Park, a 2nd at Brands Hatch in round 5, and a 3rd in round 6 at Thruxton.

The team withdrew from the series, at which point Rutter moved to briefly to Hawk Kawasaki taking a 6th at Oulton Park, then back to Team Kawasaki UK for the last few rounds of the season with a number of 5ths/6ths then ending the season well with a win and 2nd in the final round at Rockingham.

He moved onto Team Renegade Ducati for the 2002 season, finished 3rd overall for them in 2003, and is currently leading the British Superbike 2005 season for HM Plant Honda after coming second overall for the Honda team in 2004 behind John Reynolds.
