XML Support in Opera (link)

XML Support in Opera is limited to what you can achieve using CSS and there is no XSL transformation support at all.  However the browser will read XML and apply styling from a stylesheet in a way that kinda emulates XSL in an un-sophisticated sort of way. Have setup an example that uses a stylesheet that sets some display:block and padding attributes to indent and space out the records of the users XML file. There's an example on the Opera website too.

Web Related Mailing Lists (link)

Mailing Lists are all well and good, but information overload means ya cant read every post, and even skimming titles in digest mode can be a struggle. So I knocked out a list of lists that we subscribe to between us in the Web Team with links to the searchable archives for each.

Writing Project Documentation (link)

Writing Project Documentation popped up in a SlashDot thread today, and there were various suggestions re use of tools from WikiWeb's to CVS.  A couple of links to older related Slashdot articles here and here.  All three should be read when we're ready to review our documentation procedures.

The most sensible advice I read in the 1st thread was probably "Whatever you do, be consistent and be sure to document your documentation scheme. "  and another comment "Documentation is like sex: when it is good, it is very, very good; and when it is bad, it is better than nothing."

Sablotron Installed

Sablotron Installed on Asterix by ARD today and he's currently adding the Perl API so we can use it from perl based command line tools, or potentially for CGI stuff (though we should check performance). See man XML::Sablotron for details.

I've setup a generic perl script XSL_sablotron.pl which loads XML::Sablotron to run transformations. Takes three arguments for source file, template file and output file and have tested it on some of our XML/XSL and looks good so far.

The binary for using the processor from the comand line is sabcmd. Usage...

    sabcmd [options] <stylesheet> [<input> [<output>]] [assignments]
