Half the Earth Is Still Wilderness (link)
Forest

according to an article at ENS ... Wilderness areas still cover close to half the Earth's land, but contain only a tiny percentage of the world's population.

This sounded kinda possitive, but I'm a bit of a pessimist on the environmental/conservation front, and I wasnt dissapointed when I read that these areas are all "increasingly threatened by population growth, encroaching agriculture and extraction activities... Barely seven percent of them enjoy some form of protection."

Bellicose (link)

(dictionary.com) - Inclined to war or contention; warlike; pugnacious, Bellicose is from Latin bellicosus.  I dont think the author of the following was thinking of George W Bush when it was written...

Yet his undoubtedly aggressive behaviour . . . only served to further endear him to all who had dealings with him. They recognised that behind the bellicose facade, there beat a big, warm, compassionate heart

Escher's Belvedere in LEGO (link)

anyone who knows me will freely observe that I am not artistically-inclined. Paint-by-numbers would be stretching it, but I do like some of the surreal kinda stuff, and especially the optical-illusions that MC Escher achieves in a 2D sketch.

Well, it turns out there are loads of folks actually making a living now out of building freaked-up things out of LEGO and one freak with two much time on his or her hands has built this amazing LEGO model of MC Escher's Belvedere sketch, you know, the one of a tower with some trippy ladder action. Check it out.
