Hot Potatoes (link)

The Potato Gun Accident - I have no idea if this is true, but its kinda funny in a sick sort of way.  According to an OhioNews article .. "One person is dead and three others are in the hospital after a potato gun explosion....The incident is believed to have happened late Saturday night when a potato gun can into contact with gun powder and exploded"

I had no idea what a potato-gun was till a couple of weekends ago when I heard one go off in the sand dunes near my dads house at the beach. We looked over the top of the dunes and here are these teenage kids with a length of PVC tube that they were priming with some gas or other and using to fire lemons or grapefruit. Made a cool noise, didnt see anyone die using it tho.

The Hot Potato Incident - speaking of potatoes, there's a real hot one which just changed hands 3-hours ago with the early hand-over of political control from the coalition to the interim Iraqi goverment.

U.S. governor Paul Bremer handed over legal documents transferring sovereignty to chief justice Mahdi al-Mahmood at 10:30am localtime (8:30pm NZ) and jumped on a C-130 outta there 2 hours later, no doubt a very relieved man in more ways than one.

Being two days early no doubt we're gonna hear all about it (for the next two days at least) but really it's only temporary measure until formal elections are held in January next year, and in the mean time the US are still really responsible for security in Iraq.

So is this going to make any difference to the situation in the short term? With over 100 dead and twice that number injured over the past week Al Jazeera dont think so and its hardly gonna get any better, but it has to be a step in the right direction.... doesnt it?

I'm picking that its no coincidence either that Sadam's trial begins this week in front of an Iraqi court.
