Great Shot (link)

Ok. Hands up who hasn't heard about the JFK shooting game? Its been on the evening news here in NZ and its being discussed enthusiastically all over the internet this week. If you havent seen any coverage its basically a simulation of the JFK assasination where you play the part of Oswald waiting at the window with your sniper gun, taking a pot-shot at the former president as his cavalcade passes by in the streets below.

The Scottish game designers are copping a crap-load of flak of course about the worthless, contemptible, despicible nature of the game, who's designers defend it saying their intention was partly to prove the impossibility of Oswald actually making the shot (I assume its not doable in the game) and also to rouse interest in the historical nature of the event amongst youngsters these days who may know nothing about it.

When one of my workmates (who's a Yank) told me about it yesterday I burst out laughing, fair pissed myself. The whole idea of it is bloody great on so many levels, especially the anticipation of hysterical reactions by the moronic majority.

The thing I wanna know is, how the hell is this any worse than the rest of the 99% of games these days on shop shelves that are packed full of gratuitous violence. No doubt there will be moves to have the JFK game banned, meanwhile kids are walking out with copies of "Desert Storm - Back to Baghdad" going home to waste some rag-heads. But thats OK of course.
