More Badminton Excitment

After last weeks re-introduction to the joys of Badminton I thought I'd better treat myself to a racket of my own so I dont have to keep borrowing Pete's, so I trotted into RebelSports on the weekend and bought myself a nice middle-of-the-road Yonex racket for $35.

While I was there I also bought Kym a racket so that the two of us can have the odd bash-around in the drive-way at home.

The salesman at the store didn't need any further elaboration when I told him I wanted 'an-entry-level' racket for the missus. He just nodded his head and reached for the $19.99 no-frills jobbie. Kym wanted to know why I bought her the cheaper one, of course. Talk about looking a gift-horse-in-the-mouth.

Anyway, I took my spanky new racket to work today and proudly rolled up to the gym at lunchtime, imagining in my mind on the way there all the glorious strokes I'd be playing with the new weapon, and as I received the first serve from an opponent, what do you think happened?

No glorious leaping smash-shot and certainly not a devilishly crafty drop-shot. I hit the very first serve on the rim of the frame, not a string in site, and the bloody shuttle-cock fell limply onto the ground in front of me.  Oh well.  Better luck next week hopefully.
