Crap Weather, Cool Birds, and Monkeys
Kakariki

After a few days of torture there's just the weekend to go now and on Monday my new bike arrives from Christchurch. Have checked on the freight-company's website today a couple of times to follow progress. They draw you a nice little animated map showing an arrow representing the truck your consignment is currently on moving between towns. Cute, but doesnt make the waiting any easier.

Mind you, with the crap weather we've been having lately I dont feel so bad about the situation, its been pissing down or drizzling on and off for what seems like half of summer now. Hope to shit things improve soon coz we're off for a weeks holiday next Friday. Better pack the monopoly and a couple of cases of wine I guess.

Kym and I went for a walk one evening earlier this week on a night when there was freakily very little rain, and as we passed down thru one of the gully's that wind down to the Waikato river, we disturbed a pair of Kakariki which flashed their colourfull glory at us briefly as they launched themselves into the air and headed back up the gully.

Geeze it was neat to see them in the city limits, they were pretty much right in town really. My father used to see them making their way past his house on the banks of the Waikato at the other end of town, but its the first time I've seen the little fellahs myself. Really Grouse !!!!

...speaking of critters...

You may recall a couple of weeks back the Chinese New-Year celebrations (Jan 22nd) but did you know that 2004 is the official year of the monkey. As it happens I was born in the year of the monkey, and apparently...

Persons born during this time by Chinese customs will be intelligent, well-liked by everyone and successful in any chosen field.

Damn Smart people those Chinese  :-)
