Bike to Work Day
Bike to Work

This week is national Bike Wise Week and today was the official Bike-To-Work-Day here in Hamilton. A bunch of us from work headed into the Environment Center in Ward St in town and scoffed down a free breakfast (cereal and juice), hung out with other pseudo-greenie-environmentally-sensitive types for a half hour or so, then attempted to consume a crap filtered coffee from StarBucks before riding on to work.

I was kinda expecting there to be hundreds of bikes rolling thru the middle of town in some sort of velo-solidarity, but I should have known Hamiltonians (and Kiwis) better, coz it seemed a pretty lame turn-out. I swear I never saw a single bike between home and town on my way in. Jesus we're a useless bunch of car-driving bastards !!!

Negativity aside (for a second) it was actually a kinda neat way to start the day. I was telling Kym tonite about the breakfast and how it was served in plates made from potato starch, which the bikers all agreed this morning was pretty cool. Kym's response to that just now was "Why do they have to go so far? It's not only hippies that ride bikes... Ooooh.... Hippy-Wippy !!!"

Jeeze. All this talk of saving the environment has made me forget about my recent gas-guzzling pollution-accelerating green-machine which has finally made its was up from Christchuch. Arrived yesterday, and I took it out for a ride in the rain (which seems to be here for good) last night. Man I'm looking FWD to a clear patch on the weekend to get some fanging done.
