Well Done Greece ... You Fluked It (link)

I never would have beleived it ... but the Greeks actually did it. They pulled off hosting of the Olympic Games. If you've been to Greece yourself you'll no doubt be just as suprised as I am. They're so friggin laid back and disorganised and Athens itself is just one big chaotic fuck-up so it really is a miracle. There has definately been some Greek-Orthodox divine intervention there somewhere.

I've just been driven out of bed by the endless sequence of live closing ceremony Greek "pop-songs". I'm not sure how much "pop" is involved coz they were all starting to sound a bit same-y to me, and the only thing they've really got going for them is that they're piss-easy to dance to, even for white-men.

Kym called me a 'wanker' when I leapt out of bed and started doing the old alternate leg cross-over Greek dance round the house to warm myself up. The cat got a hell of a fright, but soon forgot when I danced over to the fridge to fetch his Jelly-meat breakfast.

Highlights from the games for the boys (as judged by the water-cooler commitee at work) were Russian pole-vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva, any of the Womens Gymnastics events, and Womens track-and-field in general, and of course Sarah Ulmer's medal. Highlights for the girls seemed to be Sarah and the Evers-Swindell twins, the Equestrian of course and any other medal ceremony that bought a tear to the eye. Personal favourite for me though was that massive Iranian dude in the weight-lifting.
