the Beating of the Chris

Our glorious period of religiosity continued last night with a home viewing of Mel Gibson's 'the Passion of the Christ' whilst chomping through handfulls of Easter eggs. To save you the bother of suffering the brutal and bloody nature of the movie I've generously summarised it for you in the following 40 words..

Jesus gets arrested, and beaten up, is taken to the Romans, who beat him up some more, has to carry his cross out of town, where he's beaten up by villagers, gets nailed on the cross and dies. The End.

I think even Peter Jackson would have struggled to produce more splatter than Gibson and co did for this movie. I really don't see what value there was in the film. There was nothing new or educational (apart from being filmed in Latin and Aramaic), or even controversial. We all know the story in as much detail as was shown, even heathens like me whose only religious instruction was Sunday school at primary age.

I had a quick squizz at the reviews and discussion boards on the IMDB website for the movie and they're loaded with all sorts of wankery like "i think 'the Passion of the Christ' is the greatest Jesus movie ever made". Don't believe any of it, go and rent 'Dodge-Ball' instead, a relative masterpiece :)
