Sympathy for War Journo's (link)
War Journalist

According to an article in the Guardian, veteran war reporters and experts have claimed...."The war in Iraq is the worst ever for journalists and could spell the end of the "independent witnessing of war",

Well HELLLOOOOoooo ... its a bloody war you journalistic tossers. What the hell do these wankers think is happening there?. None of them are there for humanitarian reasons, theyre mostly after international attention and recognition from peers with the view to a bigger pay-check for their next assignment coz they happened to be in a hot-zone once before.

Usenet ?, Use Not !

I was having trouble connecting to my usual web based news sources recently so thought I'd check a couple of local newsgroups to see if there was any mention of any network disruption or infrastructure issues.

I hadn't been on Usenet for a year or so and had to setup a news account in my reader, sucked down a few thousand headers from nz.comp and immediately recalled why it is I haven't been following Usenet for awhile.

The 1st thread thread of any interest was on Shane Warne being barred from cricket recently and here are these two Usenauts E.Scrooge and Taniwha goin at it in true school-yard usenet fashion.

At first the childish remarks and replies and sorta entertaining, then you realise its really bloody pathetic. These egits REALLY need to get out more. Out of Usenet that is :-)

E.Scrooge seems to be one of these morons that has an opinion on everything, and Usenet is the only place where he/she can get away with it without getting something thrown at him/her, something like a punch in the nose for example.

Next thing there's a post from some alias 'ppp' in a thread concerning the dissapearnce of the maori newsgroup (nz.soc.maori)...

> Oh dear, how sad, what a pity.

And a reply...

> Well if it isn't Scooter using his racial personality "ppp".
> What a sad and pitiful creature.

Scooter? ..... Oh No!!!! ... This is the prince-of-usenet-idiots, a truely annoying character that I remember from years ago. Next I do a search for Scooter at Google to see where he's been posting and this thread turns up from 1997 where someone observes..

"I recently started to lurk in this ng and nz.politics, and what did I see? Half of it seemed to be taken up with Scooter..."

Some things never change aye? Still its good to know there's still an active community out there I guess. Pretty amazing, considering the subject of the Death of Usenet comes up with some regularity (1991, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998 etc...)
