Harley Heaven

Hamilton is all a-stir today with the rumbling menace of a thousand Harley Davidsons in town for an gathering of the Harley owners group and international friends. We'd had a flyer dropped in our letter box a couple of weeks back advising us there'd be a large group of them passing and a few minutes ago they rumbled right past the door down Newcastle hill and out into the country towards Whatawhata

We figured they were on their way when we spotted the old bill stopping traffic at the bottom of the hill, at which point I panicked (according to Kym) rushing around getting dressed and searching for me camera. The sound of an approaching group of big twins like Harleys really is quite freeky. There's a powerful almost imperceptible resonance that you actually *feel* before you hear, then all of a sudden they're upon you roaring into sight, albeit at 15mph.

I took a few photos of them passing the house. The pillions were happy to wave out but most of the riders were either too focused on looking cool or worried about ditching their steads, either way it was a photographic gem

Love em or not, old rattley rumbling big capacity twin powered motorcycles like Harleys definately stir something up in the human system. No matter how hard you try to convince yourself theyre a big heavy crap handling piece of under-engineered Americana, in the flesh and in a big group there pretty friggin cool.
